Project Summary
Description This solar system is built at hotel Zusterna at the seaside. It is used for heating of an outdoor swimming pool and was installed during the renovation of the hotel in 2001. The whole roof of the indoor swimming pool is used as solar roof with unglazed solar collectors (600 sqm). The solar system operates, when the outdoor swimming pool is used (May–September). A buffer storage with a volume of 2 cbm is made by concrete and used for chemical preparation of pool water and for maintaining a constant level of water in the swimming pool as well. The cost of the solar collector was only 40,2 €/sqm due to the fact, that only additional cost for stainless steel piping and pump was paid. As absorbers large panel roof elements ared used and they are not representing any additional costs as the replacement of old roof should be made anyway. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Financing and investment
Introduction The renovation of the hotel included the replacement of the roof upon the indoor swimming pool. Large thermal insulated panels were selected as roofing. According to the previous research and collaboration between the University of Ljubljana and a producer of large panel roof elements the upgrading of such elements into uncovered solar collectors was proposed and accepted. The only designed criteria was total sum of investments (< 24,000 €). Investment was made by 100 % self financing. | |||||||||||||||

Development & experiences
| Summary of experiences / Notices to the project performance The only design criteria was the total sum of investments (< 24,000 €). The solar system serves the demand most of the time. During hot summer days the system is casually switched off because the pool water would get too warm. The testing of prototype was done at the University of Ljubljana. Using wind dependant efficiency curves, the TRNSYS simulation were performed and delivered energy established.
