Hotel Kanin in Bovec is going to be completely renovated in 2008 and 2009. It is planned to install a central solar thermal system for sanitary water and swimming pool heating. Solar collectors will be installed on a roof of an inner swimming pool. The available area for solar collectors is limited to 100 m2.

Two systems with different type of collectors have been analysed (flat plate and vacuum tube) both providing the equivalent amount of daylight to the swimming pool. The solar system with flat plate collectors and thermal power of 65 kWth leads to 52 % of energy savings for sanitary water and swimming pool heating. In addition 22.5 tons of CO2-emissions will be avoided per year.
