San Germano Chisone (TO), Italy
House for elderly | 70 sqm installation
| |
Description The plant of San Germano was installed on the roof of an elderly house hosting about 100 people. The collector area is 70 sqm of CPC collectors, providing hot tap water. Together with the solar plant, a new condensing boiler was installed. The management of the building started the project due to an accompaignment program by the Province of Turin, which provided technical assistance by experts and economical subsidies. Detailed information on the solar gain of the system is basically available on the internet, but so far a modem is required. The monthly solar gain is published on the web page of the Province. It is also possible to observe the solar performance on a monitor in the entrance of the building. |

| "Our local promotion programs for renewable energies base on a complete support to the investors. It is essential to create subsidy schemes and inform the involved actors about their existence. Furthermore, technicians must be trained and supported, especially during the design and the installation of plants. Finally, an adequate monitoring plan should check the operation of each system."

Quantitative aspects of the CSTS
The CSTS in San Germano was installed on an elderly house and subsidised by the Province of Turin. The collector field is designed for hot water preparation but serves also the heating system because of the existing hydraulic scheme. The plant (70 sqm of evacuated tubes) is running properly and being monitored monthly.
The performance of the system is available on the internet, on the province’s web-site: http://www.provincia.torino.it/ambiente/energia/progetti/san_germano |
